Rhode Island Land Trust Days are an annual two-month celebration of the wonderful open space lands – green spaces – across Rhode Island that land trusts are protecting. Rhode Island is home to over 45 land trusts – organizations with a mission to protect land. Land trusts are protecting 100s of acres of land – special places, landscapes, iconic views, sensitive environmental areas and wildlife habitat that define the character of our communities. Rhode Island has more Land Trusts per square mile than any other state in the union. That demonstrates our commitment to protecting our communities’ unique character and to having healthy “whole” communities with green space where people can get outdoors, unwind, get fresh air and renew our spirit.
Land Trust Day activities are the perfect opportunity for you, your family and friends – to discover the protected open spaces in your community. Many land trusts host activities and special events for everyone, young and old to enjoy. These activities include guided hikes, hot dog roasts, community festivals, full moon walks, farm tours and a whole lot more.
RI Land Trust Days theme is “Discover YOUR True Nature.” It celebrates the fun and excitement of discovering new, natural places to love, and makes it clear that land protected by trusts are there for the community, and shared by everyone – every family in our beautiful state, and enjoyed by visitors, too. This theme also celebrates the health and emotional benefits you get when you spend time outdoors enjoying our natural world.
Every Rhode Island resident should take the time to visit the land trust-protected sites near them, AND visit the many diverse sites around the state. It is the easiest way to experience the incredibly – wide range of outdoor, family friendly, and free fun Rhode Island has to offer. From beaches and ponds, to rivers and forests, rolling fields, farms and green urban retreats, you won’t know what you are missing until you take the time. Discover YOUR True Nature! Sheer joy and mystery await.
