Enjoy the beautiful wetland landscape at Crandall Family Preserve this October! On this family-friendly walk, Westerly Land Trust’s Program Coordinator Stacey Jackson, will provide information about the preserve, and guide us on a short walk to the wetland overlook.

Joining the land trust for this walk is Mary Grande, Wildlife Outreach Coordinator for RI DEM’s Division of Fish and Wildlife. Mary will be presenting information about Rhode Island’s own ecosystem engineers–beavers! On the walk, you’ll have a chance to see a beaver lodge, learn about this history of beavers in Rhode Island, and about current conservation projects.

Binoculars will be provided to scan the swamp for signs of these secretive creatures…we may even spy some waterfowl too! Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a layer or two in case of a chilly October morning. This hike is considered easy and level. For all hikes be sure to wear shoes appropriate for natural conditions that may include rocks, roots and mud along the paths. In warmer months, come prepared with insect repellant for your comfort, but it is also recommended year round for prevention of Lyme disease.

*Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. Indicating your attendance on Meetup or Facebook does not reserve your place. Don’t be disappointed, please contact Stacey to reserve your spot today!
