DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT IS AT CAPACITY. \nThe Rhode Island Land Trust Council is posting this event on behalf of the Westerly Land Trust. For this event\, Westerly Land Trust requires that you register directly with them. Please register here. Space is limited. \nJoin us on Sunday\, October 20th from 9:30am to 11:30am for a Fungal Foray at Wahaneeta Preserve. Led by Ryan Bouchard and Emily Schmidt of the Mushroom Hunting Foundation\, this exploratory walk will lead us through the diverse woods surrounding an old girl scout camp to find mushrooms\, learn how to identify them and discover how these fungi fit into our local ecosystem – some of them may even fit onto our dinner plate! Ryan and Emily bring with them not only a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm\, but also a great specimen collection so we are sure to learn something new. \nBe sure the check out the Mushroom Hunting Foundation (@mushroom_hunting_foundation) to learn more about Ryan and Emily’s mission. \nThis event is offered by WLT for no cost to participants as a part of Land Trust Days\, the annual two-month celebration of the wonderful open spaces across Rhode Island that land trusts are protecting hosted by the Rhode Island Land Trust Council. \nWe love dogs\, but you may consider leaving them home for this event.

Please register here. \nExplore the rich\, mesic forest of Wahaneeta Preserve with the Westerly Land Trust and the RI Mycological Society and discover the fungal biodiversity in our woods. Wahaneeta is an old Girl Scout camp with a charming cedar cabin\, rich mesic woodland and we will be exploring the fungi after a nice\, damp summer so we are sure to find lots of interesting mushrooms! \nJoin us for a fascinating Fungal Foray with the RI Mycological Society! This event will take place on Saturday\, October 7\, 2023 at 11:00 AM (EDT). We will gather at Wahaneeta Preserve (118 Moorehouse Road\, Westerly\, RI 02891)\, where we’ll hit the woods and uncover the local fungal biodiversity. \nCome and learn from experienced mycologists\, meet fellow fungal freaks or spark new curiosity as we learn about different species\, their ecological roles and significance. After we’ve spent some time exploring the woods\, an expert from the RI Mycological Society will lead us through a table talk\, sharing some of the discoveries and sharing some fungal knowledge. \nThis event is sure to bring together a great group of people\, so be sure to join us! Come prepared to walk in the woods. Carpool if you can and be sure to bring your reuseable water bottle. There are outhouses\, so no worries there! Dog and kid friendly. \nREGISTER HERE. \nDirections: From Dunn’s Corner Road\, head east on Moorhouse Road\, past the baseball fields and staying to the left at the fork. Parking is available through the gate at the trailhead on the large grassy field to the left.

New date & time to be determined.** \n  \nJoin The Westerly Land Trust for a happy hour hike in Wahaneeta Preserve\, followed by a wine tasting in the woods! \nThe right pairing is important for any wine\, and we think we’ve found just the right compliment! Join us this September as the Westerly Land Trust pairs with Tapped Apple Winery to bring you a full-bodied experience similar to their spring event\, Trails and Ales. \nStudy vinology amidst the vines and soak in the oaky flavors under the oak trees. Cheers to good friends\, good trails and good wine! \nPlease come dressed with appropriate footwear (i.e. good walking shoes/hiking boots). This is a FREE event.
