SUMMARY:Visit Invertebrates and an Ancient Oak at St Andrew's Farm
DESCRIPTION:The Barrington Land Conservation Trust and the Barrington Recreation Department welcome you to a very special late afternoon walk with Amy O’Donnell as part of RI Land Trust Days and the Barrington 300 Anniversary. Break away from your week day routine and you will be treated to close encounters with the invertebrates we discover on our gentle meadow and woodland ramble through St Andrews Farm. You won’t believe what we find! Learn about the importance of native plants\, pollinators and the role of hedgerows in supporting our native wildlife – large and small. \nAnother highlight of our walk will be a visit to an ancient oak tree\, one of the largest in Barrington\, which certainly predates the town. We’ll wrap our arms around the trunk to measure its girth vs the human arm-span and reflect on its longevity. \nThis free event does not require advance registration. It is perfect for families. An off-road stroller should be fine. Dogs on leash are also welcome. Dress for the afternoon’s weather. If it is hot\, be sure to bring some water. Your favorite tick protection method is recommended as a precaution against Lyme Disease. Bring a flashlight. \nQuestions? \nContact Helen at 401-480-8329 or helen@acornnpsolutions.com Learn more about the Trust at their website and on their Facebook. \nDirections:\nSt Andrews Farm is located at 101 Middle Highway in Barrington. From County Rd (Route 114)\, turn west onto Federal Road opposite the “White Church Bridge”. At the end of Federal\, turn north/right onto Middle Highway and then left onto the paved driveway just beyond the soccer fields which leads to a large paved\, parking area. We’ll meet at the trail entrance at the corner of the parking area.
