SUMMARY:Full Harvest Moonrise Walk with The Amateur Astronomical Society of RI
DESCRIPTION:Join the Bristol Land Conservation Trust (BLCT) for a Full Hunter’s Moonrise Walk on Monday\, October 6 at Mount Hope Farm. The event\, at 250 Metacom Avenue\, Bristol\, RI\, begins at 5:00 p.m. with guests gathering in the main parking lot just below the barn. Celebrate the beauty of fall with a leisurely walk to the shore field\, about .8 mile\, where we will wait for the moon to rise over scenic Mount Hope Bay at about 5:55 p.m.\, sky conditions permitting. Joining us will be Michael Corvese from Skyscrapers\, The Amateur Astronomical Society of RI. He will talk about the origins of the moon followed by lunar observing with a telescope and binoculars. Nature has a way of surprising us\, so we’re hoping for an awe-inspiring experience. This event is suited for everyone\, including families and children of all ages.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease wear appropriate walking shoes\, and bring bug repellent\, binoculars\, and a flashlight (for the walk back) if desired. The fee for the walk is $15 per person\, $25 per family\, and free for BLCT members. Proceeds will benefit the conservation and stewardship efforts of the BLCT. DESCRIPTION:Join the Bristol Land Conservation Trust Tuesday\, September 16 at Mount Hope Farm\, 250 Metacom Ave.\, Bristol\, RI from 4:45-7:00 p.m. for a guided tree walk with well-known arborist Matt “Twig” Largess – Voice of the Forest. Matt is a seasoned arborist and travels the eastern seaboard in search of Champion Trees in Old Growth Forests.\nOn this walk we will focus on some of the significant trees at Mount Hope Farm (MHF)\, many of which are native to the U.S. Thanks to the MHF staff\, Matt Largess and volunteers\, MHF is now a designated arboretum. We’ll learn what makes a healthy tree\, their role in nature\, and some of the common threats. If you’re not a tree hugger now\, you’ll be one after this walk. \nMeet us at the barn at 4:45 p.m. and wear comfortable walking shoes. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. There is a $15 charge\, maximum of $25 for families payable at the door; BLCT members are free. Parking is in the main parking area below the barn. DESCRIPTION:Due to weather forecast of predicted rain for this evening\, Bristol Land trust is cancelling this event.\n________________________________\nBristol Land Conservation Trust and Mount Hope Farm invite you to witness the rising full moon. Participants will meet at the Barn across from the Governor Bradford House for a brief “Welcome and Introduction” at 6:30pm. We’ll plan to have two walking groups leaving at 6:45pm and 7:00pm\, at a leisurely pace down the paved road\, enjoying nature’s many sights and summer sounds. We’ll pass the Duck Pond part-way down and arrive at the Cove Cabin for a sunset overlooking scenic Mount Hope Bay\, while enjoying light refreshments. After sunset\, we’ll move into the big field to watch for the rising of the Full Sturgeon Moon across Mount Hope Bay. Last year two sailboats danced in the moonlight reflected on the bay. On the way back\, we’ll listen for sounds of the evening\, basking in the light of the full moon! \nThis popular walk is suitable for dogs on leash and strollers\, but is not fully handicapped accessible.
