SUMMARY:Visit Invertebrates and an Ancient Oak at St Andrew's Farm
DESCRIPTION:The Barrington Land Conservation Trust and the Barrington Recreation Department welcome you to a very special late afternoon walk with Amy O’Donnell as part of RI Land Trust Days and the Barrington 300 Anniversary. Break away from your week day routine and you will be treated to close encounters with the invertebrates we discover on our gentle meadow and woodland ramble through St Andrews Farm. You won’t believe what we find! Learn about the importance of native plants\, pollinators and the role of hedgerows in supporting our native wildlife – large and small. \nAnother highlight of our walk will be a visit to an ancient oak tree\, one of the largest in Barrington\, which certainly predates the town. An off-road stroller should be fine. Dogs on leash are also welcome. Dress for the afternoon’s weather. If it is hot\, be sure to bring some water. Your favorite tick protection method is recommended as a precaution against Lyme Disease. Participants will meet at the Barn across from the Governor Bradford House for a brief “Welcome and Introduction” at 6:30pm. We’ll plan to have two walking groups leaving at 6:45pm and 7:00pm\, at a leisurely pace down the paved road\, enjoying nature’s many sights and summer sounds. We’ll pass the Duck Pond part-way down and arrive at the Cove Cabin for a sunset overlooking scenic Mount Hope Bay\, while enjoying light refreshments.
