SUMMARY:Third Thursday Hike: Thewlis Woods
DESCRIPTION:Location: South Kingstown\nJoin the South Kingstown Land Trust for a guided hike every 3rd Thursday of the month at 8:30 am on a different SKLT trail. For August\, visit the DAR Trail in Thewlis Woods. Thewlis Woods features stands of eastern white pine\, scarlet oak\, and beech. Turkey\, coyote\, fisher\, and many other animals find food and shelter on this property. A 0.8-mile hiking trail built in 2006 as an Eagle Scout project\, and generously funded by the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR)\, gives the hiker access to this beautiful property.\nAll ages welcome. Leashed dogs are welcome. There is no fee or registration associated with this event. \nThe guided walk will be canceled in the event of inclement weather. Take a left on Main Street and continue 0.3 miles then bear right onto Old Post Rd. Follow Old Post Rd. for 0.18 mile then take a right onto Pine Hill Rd. The road takes a sharp bend to the left then climbs a small hill. Proceed for 0.33 mile. Park on the right side shoulder just before the trail sign. Woodbine Road on left.

DESCRIPTION:Location: Narragansett\nThe Narragansett Department of Parks and Recreation and the Narragansett Land Conservancy Trust invite you their Kinney Bungalow Open House at Sunset Farm on Tuesday evenings this summer. This weekly open house will run until August 28th. \nRecorded on the National Register of Historic Places\, the beautiful Bungalow\, built in 1899\, has held numerous extravagant dances\, parties\, and celebrations. In past summers\, the American Ballet Theatre troupe used the Bungalow as their summer rehearsal site. The home and farm are Narragansett’s most picturesque and historic landmark\, perfect for enjoying an atmospheric summer sunset to match its name. Bring your camera. \nQuestions? Rodman Hwy.\n(2) Continue onto US 1 South/Tower Hill Road.\n(3) After approximately 8 miles take the exit labeled RI-108 South/Point Judith Road. (4) Bear right off the exit\, stay in the far right lane and merge onto RI 108 South at the intersection\, taking a right turn.\n(5) Continue south on RI 108 through two traffic lights\, after the second light\, you will see a stone wall following the road on your right. This will lead you to the Bungalow. As you get closer to the entrance you will begin to see farm signs for vegetables. You will see the barn first\, then the farmhouse; two large stone pillars mark the entrance\, slow down to turn right into the farm. As you turn up the driveway\, you will find the parking area and see the Bungalow up ahead.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED Meteor Shower Viewing at Grills Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Location: Westerly\nJoin The Westerly Land Trust at Grills Preserve to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower! We will go on an approximately 1-mile walk through the trails until we arrive at “Big Hill” within the preserve. This is an open\, dark and quiet area perfect for stargazing. This year\, we should see approximately 60-70 meteors per hour.\nThe Perseid Meteor Shower is one of the brighter meteor showers that happen every year. The 2018 Perseid’s shower is going to peak on this night and there will be a New Moon\, providing optimal viewing conditions.\nPlease note: Bring a blanket\, bug spray\, flashlight/headlamp\, and dress warmly. \nRegistration is not necessary\, but please call walk leader Donna (203-470-4566) if you are running late so she knows to wait for you. DESCRIPTION:Location: Newport\nThe Aquidneck Land Trust will open Miantonomi Memorial Tower to the public every Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm through September 2. Come to the highest point in Newport to view the city and Newport Harbor. At 30 acres\, Miantonomi is the largest city-owned park in Newport and is conserved permanently through ALT. The site has a rich history and provides large\, undisturbed woodlands in the densely developed North End of Newport.\nExplore the park’s hiking trails after you climb the tower and enjoy one of the best spots for birding in Newport! The tower itself will be open between 11 am to 2 pm. You may come and go at your leisure to explore the rest of the park. Stop by for 10 minutes to climb the spiral staircase to the top of the tower or hike the trails for an hour! DESCRIPTION:Guided Hike at Cumberland Monastery kicks-off Land Trust Days 2018\nLocation: Cumberland\nThe Cumberland Land Trust invites you to come to enjoy a leisurely guided hike in the woods of the Cumberland Monastery\, owned by the Town of Cumberland\, and learn the interesting history surrounding the Monastery property. Join us for one of 2 starting times for the hike: 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm. We’ll make stops along the way to see the historical Nine Men’s Misery monument and the Monk’s quarry.\nThe walk is about 2 miles round trip. Open to all ages; most appropriate for ages 6 and up. Wear comfortable walking or hiking shorts for travel on established trails. There are some hills and trail is rocky in spots. Bring insect repellant and water. Bathroom facilities are available.
