Explore this beautiful property while walking of Thanksgiving dinner! \nThe walk will test your knowledge of a variety of tree species: white pine\, gray birch\, oak\, and chestnut\, among others. A highlight is a brief primer on vernal ponds. Hosted by representatives of the Scituate Land Trust and Conservation Commission. \nBe sure to wear good walking shoes. This event is free and suitable for all ages — leashed dogs welcome as well! \n**While hunting is not permitted at Westconnaug Meadows\, there is a possibility of hunting on nearby properties. It is a good idea to wear some orange (or another bright color). \nThis walk will be canceled in the case of heavy rain and/or thunderstorms. How about a walk with Westerly Land Trust at Grills Preserve? \nThis walk on WLT’s 500-acre preserve is over primarily flat terrain often along the Pawcatuck River on clear\, wide trails. There is a gorgeous scenic view from the top of aptly named\, Big Hill\, which requires a bit of steep climbing. \nInclement weather cancels this walk. DESCRIPTION:Location: Providence\nJoin the Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy for a late autumn walk the day after Thanksgiving! Neutaconkanut Hill is the highest point in Providence — enjoy beautiful views of the city before the last few leaves fall off the trees! \nBe sure to dress for the day’s weather – wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes. This walk is suitable for all ages. Little ones must be accompanied by an adult or guardian. Dogs on a leash are also welcomed. Insect repellent is recommended year round as a precaution against ticks which carry Lyme Disease. There are no public restrooms on site. \nThis walk is FREE and open to the public. Donations are welcomed to help support these events and the work of the Conservancy. No advance reservations are required. \nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:Location: Foster\nCome on down to Borders Farm for a day of history\, hikes\, bluegrass\, and a barn sale! \nBorders Farm was settled in the 1760’s and has been continuously farmed for 250 years. The farm\, which is on the National Historic Register\, encompasses over 200 acres on both sides of North Road. Today\, Borders Farm\, Inc. and Borders Farm Preservation\, Inc help to keep alive Charles and Margery Borders’ dream of keeping their property as a working farm\, museum and agricultural education center. \nBorders Farm’s knowledgeable docents will be available throughout the day to guide the public through the history and collections of the 1840 Farm House and describe how the family lived. House tours at 10:00am\, 11:00am and 12:00pm. \nJoin guided walks of the Borders Farm property\, which includes two barns\, a 19th-century farmhouse\, several ponds and pastures\, old stone walls\, livestock\, and substantial wooded areas. The walks will be easy\, but on varied terrain. \nFrom 11:00am-1:00pm\, Borders Farm will host a Bluegrass Concert with Saddle Up the Chicken. The public is welcome to bring a picnic\, blanket and/or lawn chairs and spread out under the shady trees. \nAt historic Borders Farm\, you’ll never know what you’ll find! Charles Borders was a known collector of antiquities\, artifacts\, curios\, curiosities\, and collectibles. They’ve cleaned out the attics and cellars of the farmhouse and barns and will be putting items out on the lawn for a giant yard sale. This is your opportunity to own a piece of history! \nSuggested ages: 5 and up\, unless in a backpack or carrier. Visitors should bring insect repellent and sun protection. Due to the presence of farm animals\, dogs are not encouraged on the property; service dogs on leash are welcome. \nIn the case of rain/thunderstorms\, this event will be canceled. DESCRIPTION:Location: Warren\nJoin The Warren Land Conservation Trust for a row on the Palmer River from Belcher’s Cove to Tom’s Island and back! \nCome see the River’s natural beauty and wildlife\, while also learning about Warren Land Conservation Trust’s properties and efforts to preserve\, protect\, and make them accessible for public enjoyment. All while learning to row a historic wooden boat! \nParticipants will learn to row a Pilot Gig or a Gunning Dory. Each boat will be guided by an experienced coxswain who will provide instruction to participating rowers. After a one mile row\, disembark on WLCT property Tom’s Island and view the shore of Haile Farm Preserve. \nThis event is suitable for adults 18+. Be sure to wear weather appropriate clothing and water shoes. A life vest will be provided for each rower.
