SUMMARY:Bristol Land Conservation Trust Talk and Tour of the Green Infrastructure at the Town Beach
DESCRIPTION:Location: Bristol\nJoin the Bristol Land Conservation Trust (BLCT) for a talk and special tour of the green infrastructure projects that have been constructed at the Bristol Town Beach and Sports Complex to include the bio-retention swale\, the parking area rain gardens with native vegetation to control stormwater\, and the beach tree planting to discourage Canada Geese activity. These projects were implemented to improve the water quality of Narragansett Bay and reduce the frequency of beach closures. \nLed by Walter Burke – Acting/Former longtime Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Bristol – guests will be treated to a lively discussion and tour of an award-winning series of eco-friendly projects at the Town Beach and Sports Complex. Through ingenuity and perseverance Mr. Burke was able to acquire several grants to piece together what now has made the Town Beach both an attractive and eco-friendly recreational destination. \nParticipants will meet at the Bristol Town Beach Pavilion (50 Asylum Road) for a short introduction to the area. During the tour numerous trees will be highlighted that have made this area so appealing. \nShould weather be inclement\, guests will meet at the nearby Quinta-Gamelin Community Center at 101 Asylum Road for a talk and PowerPoint presentation. \nThe BLCT welcomes new members. Annual dues are $25 for an individual and $40 per family. For more information\, email the BLCT at BristolLandTrust@gmail.com. \nRain Date: None. Updates will be shared on the Meetup and Facebook events. \nCost: $10 per person and $20 per family (cash or check only) and free for BLCT members. Proceeds benefit the BLCT in its mission to conserve and protect open spaces in Bristol. \nQuestions? Email BristolLandTrust@gmail.com or post in the Meetup or Facebook event! \nDirections & Meeting Place: Bristol Town Beach Pavilion – 50 Asylum Road\, Bristol\, RI \nLearn more about the Bristol Land Conservation Trust HERE.

SUMMARY:EVENT AT CAPACITY! A Walk in the Woods: Botanizing in the Patricia Sprague Forest Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Location: Carolina (Charlestown)\nThis FREE event has limited capacity. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED BY EMAILING angela@charlestownlandtrust.org. \nJoin ecologist and Charlestown Land Trust board member Keith Killingbeck for a walk in the woods! Bill Bryson\, author of the 1998 classic A Walk In The Woods\, won’t be with us in the Patricia Sprague Forest Preserve\, but we’ll make up for his absence by botanizing throughout this 27.8-acre oasis along the Pawcatuck River. \nWhile infinitely shorter than the subject of Bryson’s book\, the 2\,184-mile Appalachian Trail\, the trail through the Sprague Forest intersects a diverse suite of plant communities as varied as upland forest\, old fields\, and floodplain forest. This diversity supports the wide variety of plant species we will see\, identify\, and talk about. On our special to-do list for this trip is to find the Indian pipe plants that should be there\, but that are not on the Sprague list yet. While Bryson never did succeed in hiking the entire AT\, we will have no trouble navigating this 1.2-mile walk in the woods. \nBe sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring bug spray and water. This event is FREE and suitable for all ages! Attendees are asked to leave their dogs at home for this walk. \nRain Date: None. Updates will be emailed to those who have registered for the event by emailing angela@charlestownlandtrust.org. \nQuestions? Email angela@charlestownlandtrust.org \nMeeting Place/Directions: From Carolina Back Road\, turn onto Railroad Ave in Carolina\, RI. The parking lot will be on the left. \nLearn more about the Charlestown Land Trust HERE.

SUMMARY:RAIN DATE: Kite Flying at Jacob's Point (Drop-in afternoon!)
DESCRIPTION:Location: Warren\nNOTE: This is a drop-in style event. A member of the Land Trust will be on the beach from 12pm-3pm. You do not need to arrive at the start time! Come anytime during the 3 hr period to fly a kite! \nGO FLY A KITE! Join the Warren Land Conservation Trust for the 2nd annual kite flying event. Drop in anytime between from 12pm-3pm! You can use one of the Land Trust’s kites or bring your own. This beach looking over the Warren River has a steady on-shore breeze for just about any kind of kite. Fun for ages 3 to 103. \nJacob’s Point is a hidden gem off the East Bay Bike Path. Enjoy the beach\, watch the boats go by\, or watch the osprey\, purple martins and salt marsh sparrows. This beach is literally off the beaten path. \nJacob’s Point is located off the East Bay Bike Path 1\,000 feet south of Locust Terrace\, where there is on-street parking (please do not park beyond the bike path on this road). It also is 1\,000 feet north of ASRI’s Nature Center and Aquarium. \nWe will be practicing social distancing – we can’t fly the kites too close together anyway. We respectfully ask that if there are more than 15 people in one area of the beach\, groups move farther down the beach to remain spaced well apart. \nParticipants must wear a face covering. This event is FREE. \nRain Date: Aug. 30\, 12pm-3pm\nSevere weather will postpone this event to the rain date. Updates regarding weather will be posted to this Meetup event. \n*NOTE: This event will be limited to 40 attendees. All attendees (including guests – limit 3) must be pre-registered on this MeetUp event. \nQuestions? Send us a message on Meetup. \nDirections to the beach will be sent out to everyone who has registered on MeetUp prior to the event date.

SUMMARY:Boots and Beer: After Thanksgiving Edition!
DESCRIPTION:Location: Pascoag\nJoin the Burrillville Land Trust for their very popular Boots and Beer event – After Thanksgiving edition! A great way to recharge and walk off a big meal on a fall evening. \nThis 3-mile walk travels along the interior of the Edward D. Vock Conservation Area\, an 86 acre property owned by the Burrillville Land Trust\, a private non-profit all volunteer land trust in the Town of Burrillville. The property is named for Edward D. Vock\, who was an orphan living in NYC. During the summers the orphanage would come up to Burrillville and go camping. Years later\, looking for a place for he and his wife and their three daughters\, Vock bought the land from Father Holland\, a pastor in the Town of Burrillville. At the time Vock purchased the property\, the land had been cleared for farming and raising cattle and sheep. Over the years\, Vock happily set out to turn the land into a forest…later becoming one of the first Tree Farms in Rhode Island! \nThe walk features rolling hills\, stream crossings\, glacial erratics and more. Good hiking shoes are required. Wear weather appropriate clothing. The land trust will bring orange blaze vest for each hiker. It is recommended that each hiker bring their own orange blaze. Water bottle and a snack may be a good idea to bring as well. Leashed dogs are welcomed. \nAfter the walk (around 3:15pm)\, we will drive to Bravo Brewing Company. Cash bar. For a donation of $20\, the land trust will give you a ticket for either a flight of beers or an individual glass of beer. \nRSVP by clicking “going” on the Facebook or Meetup event or by calling (401) 447-1560. \nQuestions? Call Paul at (401) 447-1560. In the case of inclement weather\, please check the Facebook and/or Meetup event pages for updates. \nDirections to Edward D. Volk Conservation Area: The corner of Olney Keach Road and Jackson School House Road\, Pascoag\, RI. (GPS – 498 Jackson School House Road\, Pascoag\, RI.)\nLook for Land Trust Days Event signs for parking and location for the hike. \nDirections to Bravo Brewing Co: 75 Pascoag Main Street\, Pascoag\, RI. Park in the municipal parking area\, along the street or in the back of the building.
