SUMMARY:All Ages Hike at Dr. John Champlin Glacier Park
DESCRIPTION:The Westerly Land Trust invites you to come explore Glacier Park’s landscape carved by enormous glaciers during the last ice age with hike leader\, Donna Anderson. The glaciers left behind kettle ponds\, kettle holes and huge boulders which are all explained on the educational sign along the trails. \nThis hike is moderate level due to hills and uneven\, rocky footing.\nSo all hikers should be sure to wear shoes appropriate for natural conditions that may include rocks\, roots and mud along the paths. In warmer months\, come prepared with insect repellant for your comfort and for prevention of Lyme Disease. \nQuestions?\nFor questions on the hike contact hike leader\, Donna\, at 203-470-4566. You may also send any additional questions to Westerly Land Trust at 401-315-2610 or via email at execdir@westerlylandtrust.org Learn more about the Trust at the WTL website and you can follow them on their Facebook. Details for this event can be found here. \nDirections:\nDr. John Champlin Glacier Park Preserve is located at directly across from 79 Tom Harvey Road near Newbury Drive in Westerly. We will meet at the trailhead at the entrance to the preserve. From the intersection of Routes 1 and 78\, proceed south on Airport Road. After the Rotary Park tennis courts on the right\, take your next left onto Tom Harvey Road. Follow Tom Harvey until Newbury Drive\, the second right\, where you will see a sign for Dr. John Champlin Glacier Park and the trail head. There are 4-5 parking spaces at the trail head outside of the gates to Winnapaug Cottages and overflow parking is available in the lot directly across Tom Harvey Road. Be sure to meet at the Tom Harvey Road/Newbury Drive entrance to the preserve.
