SUMMARY:Coastal Coves Walk
DESCRIPTION:Location: East Providence\nThe East Providence Conservation Commission invites you to join their annual Coastal Coves Walk on August 11. The walk starts at the Boyden Heights Conservation Area (on Boyden Boulevard\, East Providence). The walk includes a short stroll through the wooded trails of the conservation area and a stop at a dock that stretches into one of the coves before following the East Bay Bike Path to visit the remainder of the coves. All ages are welcome. Please be comfortable walking/hiking 2 to 3 miles on both trails and asphalt surfaces. Bug spray and sunscreen recommended\, along with plenty of water if it is a hot day. There are no restrooms. Leashed dogs welcome. This will be a casual paced walk\, stopping often for photo opportunities. The coves generally are a haven for several species of birds including great blue herons and egrets.\nThere is no fee or registration required for this event\, however\, the walk will depart at 9 am sharp. The walk will be canceled in the event of heavy rain or thunderstorm. \nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:Location: Charlestown\nThe Charlestown Land Trust and the Charlestown Conservation Commission invite you to the opening of the Patricia Sprague Forest Preserve. Join them on a walkabout of this recently acquired property along the Pawcatuck River. On the 27 acres of conserved land\, walk through oak forests and former agricultural land bordered by old apple trees. Pass kettle ponds and indicators of long ago glaciers. Look and listen for resident wildlife: turkeys\, deer\, wood ducks\, hawks\, pheasants\, and songbirds.\nThis event is rain or shine. Participants should wear sturdy shoes and bring water. SUMMARY:Evening Hike at Avondale Farm Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Location: Westerly\nAvondale Farm Preserve in Westerly is a beautiful haven for butterflies\, birds\, and bats. Bird-watchers have called this preserve a hot spot for many species of birds. The hike is an easy\, flat walk through a coastal preserve with a variety of native grasses and late summer wildflowers. All ages are welcome! This event is free of charge.\nFor all hikes be sure to wear shoes appropriate for natural conditions that may include rocks\, roots\, and mud along the paths. In warmer months\, come prepared with insect repellent for your comfort. \nRegistration is not necessary\, but please call walk leader Donna (203-470-4566) if you’re running late so she knows to wait for you! If the weather is questionable\, please contact Donna for cancellation notification. \nDirections: Avondale Farm Preserve is on Quail Run in Westerly.
