SUMMARY:Full Corn Moonrise and Ridge Walk - Cancelled!
DESCRIPTION:Weather forecasts for heavy rain with thunderstorms have informed our decision to cancel the full moon walk. Please stay tuned as we will pick another full moon date later this year for a walk. \nNeutaconkanut Hill Conservancy and the Providence Parks Department along with Rhode Island Land Trust Days and Blackstone Go! invite you to escape your work day routine for a guided walk capped by the full corn moonrise from the summit meadow. At 6:30 pm\, meet to enjoy a short walk featuring the trees of Neutaconkanut. By 7:30 pm\, we’ll be back at the meadow to watch for the full moon rising over Providence. \nDress for the day’s weather and bring a flashlight. This walk is free\, but we suggest a $5 per family donation to help support the work of the Conservancy. No advance reservations required. Suitable for ages 5 and up. Dogs on leash are welcome. Insect repellant is also recommended year round as a precaution against ticks which carry Lyme Disease. \nYou may choose to skip the walk. If so\, plan to meet us at the summit meadow around 7:30 pm. From the north: From I-95 in Providence\, take Exit 22B for US-6W/RI-10W. Merge onto US-6W. Get off at the Killingly St. Exit. Take a left at exit onto Killingly St. Continue to drive straight at the Hartford Ave. intersection light\, keeping on Killingly St. At stop sign (the ball park will be straight ahead) turn left\, staying on Killingly St and then turn right into the parking lot for the ballfield. Stay safe! \nThe Ten Mile River Watershed Council\, the East Providence Conservation Commission and the National Park Service invite you to experience the beauty of a late summer sunset and full harvest moonrise across the Turner Reservoir. Learn about the fish ladder restoring the herring run. Our easy\, less than a mile walk will include a side trip to an ancient oak tree at Bridgham Farm. \nNo reservations are needed for this free event. Dogs on leash are welcome. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Bug repellant is advised. SUMMARY:Focus on Insects - Guided Walk at Garrison House Acres
DESCRIPTION:Narrow River Land Trusts calls you to witness their contribution to a state-wide celebration of special green spaces just outside your door. Join them for an all-ages guided walk starting at Middlebridge and walking across the bridge to South Kingstown and through the Garrison House Acres Narrow River Land Trust property. This year’s walk will focus on insects with our guides\, Rick Enser of the Narrow River Land Trust and David Gregg of the RI Natural History Survey. Learn about the insects that inhabit the shoreline and fields and how NRLT track them. To learn how climate change may be reflected in the insect life we will set up moth traps and use other techniques to record insect diversity and discover trends. \nPlease wear sturdy shoes and bring binoculars\, hand lens\, and insect protection. DESCRIPTION:The Tiverton Open Space Commission invites you to a vigorous 1¾ mile walk at Weetamoo Woods. You will be among the first to travel the newly created\, uneven trails through a recent addition to one of the Commission’s most remarkable protected properties. Starting from the East Road entrance\, trails pass through the oak and holly forest and loop past cellar holes and an 1840 saw mill. Enjoy the woods and discover the hidden history of Tiverton. \nBe sure to wear appropriate footwear\, socks and long pants (remember this is tick territory). Insect repellant is highly recommended. No handicap accessibility. No restrooms. Dogs are not permitted for this group hike. SUMMARY:Glocester's Steere Hill Hike
DESCRIPTION:Glocester Land Trust invites you on a guided walk of their spectacular Steere Hill Conservation Area. Starting at the parking area\, we will walk through the forest on twisting trails\, over an earthen dam\, rocky ridges\, past a shepherds hut site\, a grove of American Beech\, immense stone walls and barn foundations\, to a 27 acre meadow with a breathtaking five mile vista at the summit of Steere Hill. On the way down the hill we will visit an ancient cemetery with unmarked field stones for headstone and footstones that may date to the 1740’s. \nThe trail is a little rough\, gently rolling\, and can be muddy\, so wear appropriate shoes. At the top of the hill is a portable toilet. Leashed dogs are welcome. Bring water. Total distance is approx 3 miles. SUMMARY:Pocasset Ridge: Tiverton's New Protected Forest
DESCRIPTION:The Nature Conservancy\, Tiverton Land Trust and Tiverton Open Space Commission invites you to their newest addition to their protected forest\, Pocasset Ridge. The guided hike amid unfragmented forest will be hosted by John Berg of The Nature Conservancy in RI. The three conservation partners have acquired a new forest to protect for you to come enjoy. Plan to walk for 3.5 miles over rough and rocky ground\, there are some steep slopes. So make sure you are well-equipped with appropriate attire.\nTravel light but there are no services or conveniences in this forest tract. Birders especially welcome!\nReservations not necessary but the walk will leave promptly at 1:30 PM.
