SUMMARY:Summer Stroll in the Woods
DESCRIPTION:Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy and the Providence Parks Department invite you along for our guided monthly walk for August through the only wild forest in Providence. We’ll be taking an easy pace and route across the ridge through shaded woods\, past ferns and blueberries and cooling streams. The views from the Pocasset overlook and summit meadow are always a treat. \nDress for the day’s weather – be sure to wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes. This walk is free\, but we suggest a $5 per family donation to help support the work of the Conservancy. No advance reservations required. Suitable for ages 5 and up. Dogs on leash are welcome. Insect repellant is recommended year round as a precaution against ticks which carry Lyme Disease – we’ll have some on hand. We’ll start our walk at the Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy kiosk behind the ballfield. From the east and south: From I-95 in Providence\, take US-6W/RI-10W exit. From the north: From I-95 in Providence\, take Exit 22B for US-6W/RI-10W. Merge onto US-6W. Get off at the Killingly St. Exit. Take a left at exit onto Killingly St. Continue to drive straight at the Hartford Ave. intersection light\, keeping on Killingly St. At stop sign (the ball park will be straight ahead) turn left\, staying on Killingly St and then turn right into the parking lot for the ballfield. \nOur Conservancy programs are offered to the community thanks to our dedicated volunteers. SUMMARY:Twilight Woodland Walk at Bugnet Tree Farm
DESCRIPTION:Get a jump start on Land Trust Days with the Rhode Island Forest Conservation Organization (RIFCO) and the West Greenwich Land Trust on this special\, guided twilight walk at the Bugnet Tree Farm. Open to the public for educational programs such as this evening’s outing\, this 69 acre property was first protected in 2008 through the purchase of a conservation easement as part of the Forest Legacy Program. This valuable forestland habitat abuts the State’s Big River Management Area. \nView the results of a long history of forestry improvements in a White Pine-dominated forest where an active timber harvesting operation has been taking place. Your tour will highlight the benefits of practices that encourage diversity of trees and habitat through these forest managment practices. \nBe sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and insect protection. SUMMARY:Boyden Heights Coastal Cove Walk
DESCRIPTION:East Providence Conservation Commission invites you to enjoy a short summer morning stroll through the woods and out to the bike path! From here we will walk the bike path a bit to visit two or three coastal coves. This hike is a mile or two long depending on the group. Bring your camera!
