SUMMARY:EVENT FULL: Land Trust Days Kickoff at Haile Farm Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Location: Warren\n*Pre-registration on the MeetUp event is required for ALL attendees. \nJoin the Warren Land Conservation Trust and the Rhode Island Land Trust Council for a brief talk on Friday\, August 21 at 6pm by entomologist Ben Gagliardi\, followed by a self-guided walk at Haile Farm Preserve to kick off Land Trust Days 2020! \nThe Haile Farm Preserve\, one of the signature properties of the Warren Land Conservation Trust\, is comprised of 60 acres and has approximately two and a half miles of easy walking trails. It is remarkable for its variety of ecosystems ranging from upland forests (including numerous stone walls) to tidal marshes. Several trails lead to outstanding views of the Palmer River. The new Jade Trail\, completed this spring\, leaves from New Industrial Way and provides an opportunity for an interesting “loop” walk. \nBen will give a brief introduction about local insect diversity and include some examples/photos/descriptions/stories about insects that he has encountered along the Haile Farm Preserve trails. Following the talk\, attendees will guide themselves along the preserve’s trail systems and then reconvene at 7:15pm to review our discoveries. \nTo make the walk even more interesting\, bring your smart phone to take pictures of interesting things you see along the trail and upload them to a project on the iNaturalist app and/or collect live specimens in jars/containers that you can bring along! We will set up a table for touchless viewing. \nAll participants must wear a face covering. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring bug spray. This event is FREE and suitable for all ages. Leashed dogs are welcome. \n*NOTE: This event will be limited to 15 attendees to allow for adequate distancing during the talk & along the trail. All attendees (including guests – limit 2) must be pre-registered on the MeetUp event. \nRain Date: none \nQuestions? Contact: Michael Gerhard – 401-529-0563 or mgerhardt39@yahoo.com \nDirections to the trailhead will be sent out to everyone who has registered on MeetUp prior to the event date.

SUMMARY:RAIN DATE: Kite Flying at Jacob's Point (Drop-in afternoon!)
DESCRIPTION:Location: Warren\nNOTE: This is a drop-in style event. A member of the Land Trust will be on the beach from 12pm-3pm. You do not need to arrive at the start time! Come anytime during the 3 hr period to fly a kite! \nGO FLY A KITE! Join the Warren Land Conservation Trust for the 2nd annual kite flying event. Drop in anytime between from 12pm-3pm! You can use one of the Land Trust’s kites or bring your own. This beach looking over the Warren River has a steady on-shore breeze for just about any kind of kite. Fun for ages 3 to 103. \nJacob’s Point is a hidden gem off the East Bay Bike Path. Enjoy the beach\, watch the boats go by\, or watch the osprey\, purple martins and salt marsh sparrows. This beach is literally off the beaten path. \nJacob’s Point is located off the East Bay Bike Path 1\,000 feet south of Locust Terrace\, where there is on-street parking (please do not park beyond the bike path on this road). It also is 1\,000 feet north of ASRI’s Nature Center and Aquarium. \nWe will be practicing social distancing – we can’t fly the kites too close together anyway. We respectfully ask that if there are more than 15 people in one area of the beach\, groups move farther down the beach to remain spaced well apart. \nParticipants must wear a face covering. This event is FREE. \nRain Date: Aug. 30\, 12pm-3pm\nSevere weather will postpone this event to the rain date. Updates regarding weather will be posted to this Meetup event. \n*NOTE: This event will be limited to 40 attendees. This is higher than other Land Trust Days events since it is a “drop-in” style event\, and there is a lot of space for distancing along the beach. All attendees (including guests – limit 3) must be pre-registered on this MeetUp event. \nQuestions? Send us a message on Meetup. \nDirections to the beach will be sent out to everyone who has registered on MeetUp prior to the event date.
