This walk is free\, but we suggest a $5 per family donation to help support these events and the work of the Conservancy. No advance reservations required. Suitable for ages 5 and up. Dogs on leash are welcome. Insect repellant is also recommended year round as a precaution against ticks which carry Lyme Disease. \nNHC will not hike if temperatures (or ‘feels like’ temperatures) are 20 degrees or below. Any cancellations will be noted on the NHC Facebook page and website (http://www.nhill.org/) \nQuestions? Contact Susan Fitzpatrick susan@nhill.org with questions. \nDirections: Take Route 6 to Killingly Street off-ramp\, go west and cross over Hartford Ave at the traffic light. SUMMARY:Nature Walk at Haile Farm Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Location: Warren\nThe Warren Land Conservation Trust invites you to join Benedict Gagliardi\, entomologist and Lad Coordinator at the RISD Nature Lab\, for a casual but informative autumnal jaunt through the woods of Warren. There are still insects active in the fall and plentiful signs and remnants of others that completed their life cycles in the summer. You will not only look for beets and bugs as they tread the trail\, but also galls\, cocoons\, egg cases\, interesting feeding damage\, and other signs and tracks of life. You will inevitably observe birds\, plants\, mushrooms\, and other local flora and fauna along the way. Bring a camera if you please. Participants may also learn to use the nature-documenting\, citizen science phone app called iNaturalist. Note that the Warren Land Conservation Trust has not fully developed trails on this site. Terrain may be rough and wet\, boots are recommended. \nDirections: The Haile Farm Preserve is behind the previous Fed Ex building off Market Street in Warren. From 195 East\, take exit 2 and follow RT-136 south for approx. 8 miles into Warren\, RI. Turn right onto Old Market St then another right onto New Industrial Way. There is parking available on New Industrial Way.
