SUMMARY:Narrow River Land Trust Workshop on Invasive Species
DESCRIPTION:The Rhode Island Land Trust Council is posting this event on behalf of the Narrow River Land Trust. For this event\, NRLT requires that you register directly with them. Please register by emailing Office@Narrowriverlandtrust.org by September 8th. \nThe end of summer is a good time to turn your attention to the treatment of invasive species in your yard and your neighborhood. This is the time of year that the plants are sending their nutrients back into their roots and setting their seeds that will be scattered by birds and small mammals. Want to learn more? Come to the Narrow River Land Trust Workshop on Invasive Species! \nThe training will include information on several of the most serious and pervasive plants\, their identification\, and control strategies. It will also include a hands-on demonstration of the tools used to control the plants and a discussion of some chemical options. In the field\, we will identify many of the plants discussed and spend some time removing them. The field work will be mechanical only\, but the discussion of the chemical options will be integrated in the tour of the invasive species. The fieldwork will be held at a NRLT property adjacent to the training venue. \nLocation details will be provided upon RSVP to Office@Narrowriverlandtrust.org.

SUMMARY:Guided Hike at Atlantic White Cedar Swamp / Burlingame Preserves
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Cumberland Land Trust for a 2.25-mile Labor Day guided hike at the 153 acre Atlantic White Cedar Swamp and Burlingame Preserves. We will hike along numerous historic stone walls\, pass by a historic cellar hole\, meander by a number of bedrock hummocks and glacier carved lowlands and walk on a 200 foot long boardwalk over the wetlands. \nThe difficulty is considered moderate. Hiking shoes are highly recommended as the footing will vary from soft to wet bottomland soils to some rocky terrain.
