DESCRIPTION:The Barrington Land Conservation Trust invites you to walk off your Thanksgiving meal and spend the morning outdoors at one of Barrington’s hidden gems\, the Johannis Wildlife Preserve\, 32 acres of woodlands\, open fields\, and saltwater marshes on the Palmer River. \nJohannis is maintained and protected by the Barrington Land Conservation Trust and normally closed to the public. This is a wonderful opportunity to view this special property and enjoy time with family and friends. \nThis trail can be wet\, so protective shoes are recommended. \nDirections & Parking: Parking is limited at the trailhead\, so we will meet at the parking lot of Sowams Elementary School\, 364 Sowams Rd in Barrington. DESCRIPTION:Location: Westerly\nIt’s the Friday after Thanksgiving and all of the food has been eaten – what is there to do next? How about a walk at Riverwood Preserve? This property is part of the Westerly Land Trust’s Pawcatuck River Corridor Initiative. It consists of 148 acres of woodland\, rocky ridges and freshwater wetlands adjacent to the Pawcatuck River and the Boy Scout Camp. It has interesting quarry remnants\, river views\, and descent through a beautiful gorge. Some climbing in rocky areas may be involved as the best views are from the higher elevations. \nLocation and Parking: Meet on Old Hopkinton Road at the end of Boy Scout Drive. DESCRIPTION:Location: Tiverton\nJoin the Tiverton Open Space Commission\, The Nature Conservancy\, and Tiverton Land Trust for an exploration of the varied habitats at the Pocasset Ridge Conservation Area. From the cardinal flowers in the lowlands\, to overlooking treetops from the “cliff\,” this walk is sure to be a delight! \nThe property contains 600 acres of rugged forest preserved by the joint efforts of The Nature Conservancy\, Tiverton Open Space Commission\, and Tiverton Land Trust. We’ll stroll through a delightfully accessible wetland\, make the climb to oak-huckleberry barrens on the rocky highlands\, explore a rich basin of towering oaks\, then make our way to the “cliff” overlooking a sheer\, ninety-foot drop to a red maple-yellow birch swamp. \nPlease make sure you are well-prepared for rugged trails\, a bit of a climb\, and an invigorating experience in East Bay’s wildest forest – bring water\, bug spray\, and comfortable walking/hiking shoes.
