SUMMARY:Hunts Mills - Historic Tour of the Grounds
DESCRIPTION:The East Providence Conservation Commission will be leading guided walks of the grounds at Hunts Mills to coincide with the East Providence Historical Society’s monthly open house. \nThe walks will be held at 12 PM every second Sunday of each month. This is an easy and relaxed paced walk of approximately 1 mile on wooded trails that is good for beginners and kids. The grounds have plenty of history dating over centuries. We will stop several times and discuss the history of the property as well as the Ten Mile River. \nMeet in the parking lot by John Hunt House. The John Hunt House\, a museum of East Providence history\, will open at 1:00 PM following the hike.

SUMMARY:Tree Walk with Bristol Land Conservation Trust
DESCRIPTION:Join the Bristol Land Conservation Trust Tuesday\, September 16 at Mount Hope Farm\, 250 Metacom Ave.\, Bristol\, RI from 4:45-7:00 p.m. for a guided tree walk with well-known arborist Matt “Twig” Largess – Voice of the Forest. Matt is a seasoned arborist and travels the eastern seaboard in search of Champion Trees in Old Growth Forests.\nOn this walk we will focus on some of the significant trees at Mount Hope Farm (MHF)\, many of which are native to the U.S. Thanks to the MHF staff\, Matt Largess and volunteers\, MHF is now a designated arboretum. We’ll learn what makes a healthy tree\, their role in nature\, and some of the common threats. If you’re not a tree hugger now\, you’ll be one after this walk. \nMeet us at the barn at 4:45 p.m. and wear comfortable walking shoes. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. There is a $15 charge\, maximum of $25 for families payable at the door; BLCT members are free. Parking is in the main parking area below the barn. In this four-part plein air series\, you’ll learn the foundations of outdoor sketching and painting while exploring the beautiful landscapes of SKLT properties. \nEach class begins with a short discussion and live demonstration\, where Trish introduces techniques in spatial design\, composition\, and atmospheric perspective. You’ll then set up with your own materials to sketch or paint on-site\, using nature as your subject. Trish will move among participants\, offering individual guidance and tips to help you develop your eye and technique. Sessions wrap up with a group critique\, where everyone shares their work in a relaxed and supportive setting. \nOver the course of the series\, you’ll practice: \n* Capturing light\, shadow\, and changing skies\n* Simplifying forms to convey the essence of a landscape (*less is more*)\n* Using composition to guide the viewer’s eye\n* Experimenting with your choice of medium—drawing\, watercolor\, oil\, or more \nPlease bring lightweight\, outdoor-friendly materials and consider accessibility when choosing easels or supplies. \nTrish\, a South Kingstown artist whose work has been exhibited across the U.S.\, has taught art in New England since 2006. SUMMARY:Sunset Farm Trail Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Narragansett Land Conservancy Trust (NLCT) will sponsor a walk along the Sunset Farm Trail on Saturday\, September 20\, 2025\, as part of the Gansett Days celebration. Participants will meet in the parking area behind Kinney Bungalow. \nThe trail is wide\, showing the traditional farming uses onsite. The entire 1.5-mile loop is in the shape of a “lasso\,” and is generally flat with a few sections of elevation change\, but none are steep. The trail head is at the far northwest point of the parking lot\, next to the gate entering the farm area. The trails boasts scenic views of the farm\, diverse natural features\, as well as an overlook and picnic area on Champlin Cove in Point Judith Pond. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed.

DESCRIPTION:The Narragansett Land Conservancy Trust (NLCT) and Friends of Canonchet Farm (FOCF): Will be sponsoring a hike of the Gansett Loop Trail on Saturday\, September 20\, 2025\, as part of the Gansett Days celebration. The Gansett Loop Trail is 5.2 miles in length\, and hikers will be able to complete the entire trail or walk one or more of the legs of the trail. \nThe walk will begin at 10am and parking will be available in three locations: Pier Middle School\, the Narragansett Community Center\, and the West Parking Lot opposite Narragansett Town Beach. At each of these starting points there will be volunteers to guide the hikers\, answer questions\, and provide directions. \nThe NLCT and FOCF will provide participants with a keepsake of the event. This is a dog friendly walk\, and dogs MUST always be leashed and picked up after.

In this four-part plein air series\, you’ll learn the foundations of outdoor sketching and painting while exploring the beautiful landscapes of SKLT properties. \nEach class begins with a short discussion and live demonstration\, where Trish introduces techniques in spatial design\, composition\, and atmospheric perspective. You’ll then set up with your own materials to sketch or paint on-site\, using nature as your subject. Trish will move among participants\, offering individual guidance and tips to help you develop your eye and technique. Sessions wrap up with a group critique\, where everyone shares their work in a relaxed and supportive setting. \nOver the course of the series\, you’ll practice: \n* Capturing light\, shadow\, and changing skies\n* Simplifying forms to convey the essence of a landscape (*less is more*)\n* Using composition to guide the viewer’s eye\n* Experimenting with your choice of medium—drawing\, watercolor\, oil\, or more \nPlease bring lightweight\, outdoor-friendly materials and consider accessibility when choosing easels or supplies. \nTrish\, a South Kingstown artist whose work has been exhibited across the U.S.\, has taught art in New England since 2006. Please register here. \nHere’s your chance to learn about migratory bird research at this special Walk & Talk at Bailey Brook in Middletown. Aquidneck Island Land Trust’s former Board Chair and Salve Regina professor Jim Chace will lead this free tour and bird banding demonstration. Meet at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday\, September 27\, at the Middletown Police Station (123 Valley Road\, Middletown) and we will walk over together to the mobile bird banding station and see what Jim catches! \nParking is limited so please carpool if possible. Bailey Brook is a primary source of drinking water for Middletown and Newport residents\, and serves as habitat for several migratory bird species. The Land Trust partnered with the Town of Middletown to preserve the parcel of land buffering Bailey Brook. \nRain date: Sunday\, September 28 at 8 a.m.
