SUMMARY:Cumberland Land Trust Labor Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Cumberland Land Trust for our Labor Day Hike at the Scott Brook and High Rock Preserves\, whose trails have recently been dramatically modified due to a high level of beaver activity. Hikers will have their choice of two guided walks\, a 2 mile or a 3.5 mile hike.\nBoth hikes are rated as moderate to moderate+ and include short steep hills and a bit of rock hopping.\nHikers will experience beautiful woodlands\, historic stone walls\, stream crossings and views of the beaver environments and dams along Scott Brook. Hikers will also view Scott Brook Chasm and the Bluebird Meadow.\nFor your reference\, John Kostrzewa recently highlighted the preserves in his Providence Journal “Walking Rhode Island” column.\nYoung hikers are invited to join us on the guided hike. Though leashed dogs are usually allowed on our trails\, in respect to the other hikers\, dogs are not allowed on the Labor Day hike.\nBecause of some rocky terrain along the trails\, It is advised that hikers wear sturdy footwear. Hikers should also protect themselves from insects and carry drinking water.\nThe hike will start from the Outdoor Environmental Education Center (OEEC) High Rock Preserve trailhead on Monday\, September 1 (Labor Day) at 10:00 am. The OEEC is located at 186 Scott Road in Cumberland. Heavier precipitation or thunderstorms will cancel the hike.\nTrail maps can be downloaded from Cumberlandlandtrust.org.\nOEEC is located at 41.95381\, -71.42808
