We will walk together to the mobile bird banding station and see what Jim catches! \nBailey Brook is a primary source of drinking water for Middletown and Newport residents\, and serves as habitat for several migratory bird species. The Aquidneck Land Trust worked in partnership with the Town of Middletown to preserve the parcel of land buffering Bailey Brook. \nParking is limited so please carpool.\nIf vaccinated\, no masks are required. DESCRIPTION:Location: Charlestown\nREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED to participate in the race by visiting: https://www.charlestownlandtrust.org/Trail_Run.html – $35 to pre-register or $40 for day-of race registration. \nJoin the Charlestown Land Trust for their 3rd Annual 10k trail run (or trail walk!) at Amos Green Farm – a beautiful 18th century farm protected jointly with the land trust! \nDiscover the beauty of Charlestown’s protected open space and get some exercise! The 10K Trail Run will start at Amos Green Farm and continue on The Nature Conservancy’s Carter Preserve. \nRegistration: 9:00 – 9:50 am. Runners start at 10:00 am sharp\, Walkers at 10:15. Check-in is 9:00-9:50 am. Prizes awarded for top 3 male and female finishers. Entry fee is $35 in advance\, $40 day of race. SUMMARY:Opening of Janice L. Sullivan Conservation Area
DESCRIPTION:Location: Coventry\nJoin the Coventry Land Trust for a guided walk\, followed by an open trail day at the Janice L. Sullivan Property to introduce their newest conservation area in Coventry! \nCome experience the seasonal changes that September brings. The scenery of the forest with outcrops & wetlands offers the hiker a peaceful backdrop for a weekend excursion! The property is situated within a beautiful 500-acre conservation area where the Coventry Land Trust has developed four trails that are suitable for a wide range of experience levels. \nAt 10am\, members of the Coventry Land Trust will lead a guided walk on the property’s Blue Trail. The first leg of this is a 1/2 mile. This newest trail connects the Bramblebush neighborhood to the trail network of the Beaudoin Preserve. The second leg\, for the more adventurous\, will take you on a 2 mile out & back walk to the Coventry Greenway. Round trip the hike will be approximately 2.5 miles. The entire hike will take about 1.5 – 2 hours at a moderate pace. \nFollowing the guided walk\, all trails will be open until 2pm for self-guided access. There will be a member of the Coventry Land Trust at the trailhead to provide information & direct you to the trails. \nBe sure to wear comfortable clothing & good walking/hiking shoes. The Coventry Land Trust will provide bottled water\, snacks\, and bug spray. In addition the Land Trust will be holding a drawing featuring gift certificates from local businesses. \nThis event is FREE and suitable for all ages! Leashed dogs welcome. \nRain Date: None. SUMMARY:Guided Trail Walk of Booth Pond Conservation Area
DESCRIPTION:Location: North Smithfield\nJoin the North Smithfield Land Trust for a guided walk on the newly opened Booth Pond Conservation Area\, which lies within North Smithfield and Woonsocket. This wildlife conservation area totals 130 acres and includes the pond\, surrounding wetlands and upland forest. \nThe first half of the walk to see the pond is of moderate difficulty\, and for those not interested in continuing further\, we will return to the trailhead. The second half of the walk has a few sections of somewhat challenging uphill/downhill terrain and a walking stick may be helpful. You will find a scenic overview of the surrounding area at a lookout point at the higher elevation. \nBe sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring bug spray and water. This event is FREE and suitable for all ages! No registration necessary. \nAlthough leashed dogs are normally permitted on the trails (all pet waste removed)\, it may be best to leave them at home for this group activity. \nRain Date: None.
