SUMMARY:EVENT AT CAPACITY: Row on the Palmer River
DESCRIPTION:Location: Warren\nEVENT AT CAPACITY. If you did not already pre-register by emailing WarrenLCTRI@gmail.com\, there is no more room in this event (or in the boat). But if you plan to bring your own canoe or kayak\, you may attend without being pre-registered. \n—————- \nThis FREE event has limited capacity (there will be a waitlist if needed). REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED by emailing WarrenLCTRI@gmail.com. \nJoin the Warren Land Conservation Trust on a row to our Tom’s Island Preserve. We will launch at 9 am from the end of Kelly Street in Warren and row up the Palmer River to Tom’s Island. Ten participants will row a dory or pilot gig a mile to Tom’s Island and a mile back. You will learn to row together in unison as a crew\, see the marshes and habitats along the river\, and learn about the Land Trust’s efforts in preservation and conservation in the area. \nThe Palmer River has some of the most extensive – and threatened – salt marsh habitat in New England. Tom’s Island itself has been shrinking year to year\, as a result of sea level rise and erosion from storms. Come see the island for yourself – it may be gone in the next few years. \nLifejackets will be provided. Wear weather appropriate clothing in layers and shoes that can get wet. Bicycle type fingerless gloves can be used to protect hands. Bring sunscreen\, water and a light snack. \nAdults only in the land trust’s boats. \nIf you come with your own kayak or canoe\, no registration is necessary and you must provide your own lifejacket. \nRain Date: None. Heavy rain/thunderstorms will cancel the event. Updates will be shared on the Facebook & Meetup events. \nQuestions? Email WarrenLCTRI@gmail.com \nMeeting Place/Directions: The group will be departing from Kelly Street on Belcher’s Cove\, Warren. Take RI route 114 to Kelly Street. Take Kelly Street (across from Patriot Liquors) across the bike path\, proceed to the end at the cove. You will be directed where to park. \nLearn more about the Warren Land Conservation Trust HERE.
