SUMMARY:Woodland Whispers Poetry Installation
DESCRIPTION:Location: Smithfield\nThe Smithfield Land Trust and the Smithfield Conservation Commission invite you to experience the latest poetry installation on their properties. They have poems installed in quiet places to encourage a thoughtful rest on a hike. Poetry boxes are also present at many properties. They have contributions from many local poets and artists. On the guided hike\, participants will hike to the area of the installation and be part of it with the volunteers who put it up. This is a great family activity. Wolf Hill Forest preserve is a hilly start and the hike will be about 1 mile (not handicap accessible). Wear hiking clothes\, bring bug spray\, and water. While dogs are welcome at Wolf Hill\, they may not do well on this walk. \nQuestions? Just past the police station\, take a right onto Waterview Drive. You will see a sign for “Autumn Run “. SUMMARY:Learn the Basics of Bugs at Borders Farm
DESCRIPTION:Location: Foster\nFascinated by insects?  Come to historic Borders Farm\, 31 North Road\, Foster on Saturday\, September 29 for a hands-on learning experience for the whole family.  Explore the farm and discover the insects that live there in this fun and inspiring workshop on the Basics of Bugs!   \nMelissa Guillet\, an interdisciplinary art teacher and environmental advocate\, will conduct the workshop.  Melissa has been involved with both URI’s pilot Eco-Exploration Camp and the Audubon Society’s Schoolyard Science for an Urban Eco-System and was named Environmental Educator of the Year in 2012.  She continues to be recognized for her program development and dedication to environmental literacy and has received multiple recognition awards from the East Providence School Department.  \nPre-Registration Required \nMelissa will conduct one session from 11:00am to 12:00noon.  Cost is $10.00 per family\, pre-registration is required and enrollment is limited. SUMMARY:Pocasset Ridge Guided Hike
DESCRIPTION:Location: Tiverton\nThe Nature Conservancy\, Tiverton Land Trust\, and Tiverton Open Space Commission invite you to explore their protected coastal forest at Pocasset Ridge.  The guided hike along the ridge and into this 600-acre tract of coastal forest with its many rock formations will be hosted by John Berg of The Nature Conservancy in Rhode Island.    \nPlan to walk for 3.5 miles over rough ground\, there are some hillsides to climb.  So make sure you are well-equipped with appropriate attire!\nTravel light but there are no services or conveniences in this forest tract.  Birders especially welcome!\nReservations not necessary but the walk will leave promptly at 1:30 PM.  We will take attendance\, then\, to ensure we return to the parking area two and a half hours later with the same number of hikers! \nQuestions?\nContact the Nature Conservancy at 401-331-7110 or email John Berg at jberg@tnc.org.  For more information on the Nature Conservancy\, visit their website here and for the Tiverton Open Space Commission\, you can visit the TOSC webpage.
