DESCRIPTION:Location: Little Compton\nJoin the Sakonnet Preservation Association in celebrating the Autumn Equinox on a beautiful coastal property in Little Compton.\nOn this walk\, Rhode Island herbalist and herb farmer Rachel Playe\, of Radia Herbs will connect you with your surroundings by pointing out the wild medicinal herbs growing on the PT Marvell Preserve. Rachel will help you identify these plants and describe their purposes and healing qualities.\nThe PT Marvell Preserve consists of maritime woodland\, coastal thicket\, and upland meadows. The acquisition of this property was the result of a cooperative effort between The Nature Conservancy\, the Little Compton Agricultural Conservancy Trust\, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and the Sakonnet Preservation Association. \nThis is a fairly flat\, easy walk. There are no restrooms available.\nAdults and families are welcome\, but please leave dogs at home. \nThis event will be canceled for heavy rain. DESCRIPTION:Location: North Smithfield\nJoin the North Smithfield Land Trust for a one-day amateur photo contest to be held on the Rocky Hill Road woodland trail. Unleash your creative spirit\, and photograph anything that captures your eye as you stroll along the path (plants\, rocks\, trees\, leaves\, people\, etc.). Submit your two best original images by email (Cell phone pictures are fine). There will be four age categories: Elementary School\, Middle School\, High School & Adult. One winner from each category will receive a $50 Amazon Gift Card\, Second place receives $25. Winning images and best entries will be featured in the North Smithfield Land Trust 2019 calendar. The trail is 0.7 miles\, fairly easy walking\, with some elevation. Clothing with insect repellent and adequate footwear are recommended. Water and light snack provided. No restrooms available. Find out more about their unique adaptations\, from specialized eyelids to web feet and have a chance to touch beaver fur and skull. \n\n\n \n\n\nMeet at Depot Square Park and join the group on a walk over to the Land Trust Property where there are very active beavers. A naturalist from the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center will present a program about the beavers. \n\n\n \n\n\nThe land trust’s Beaver Program is for all ages and children must be accompanied by an adult. SUMMARY:Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy Annual Fall Event
DESCRIPTION:Location: Providence\nThe Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy and the Providence Parks Department along with RI Land Trust Days and Blackstone Go! invite you to the Hill for their annual Fall Event featuring guided hikes\, toasting marshmallows\, live music\, fire truck tour and mounted police. You can even meet the kid goats from the Providence Parks Department. Learn the history of the hill and enjoy the view of the city of Providence. Bring your blanket or chair to sit on. If you have an instrument\, feel free to bring it along to the meadow where we will all relax and enjoy the panoramic view of Providence. \nAll ages event\, but the walk is most suitable for ages 5 and up. No advance reservations required. Dress for hiking and day’s weather. Dogs on leash are welcome. Insect repellant is also recommended year round as a precaution against ticks which carry Lyme Disease. This event is free\, but we suggest a $5 per family donation to help support the work of the Conservancy. DESCRIPTION:Location: Richmond\nJoin the Richmond Rural Preservation Land Trust for an evening hike at the Crawley Preserve.\nThe Crawley Preserve\, on the South Kingstown/Richmond border\, is a pleasant 100-acre property home to streams\, historic foundations and stone walls\, and stands of hickory\, American beech\, and oak trees.\nThe evening hike will last about an hour and includes some hilly terrain. Please dress according to the weather and bring a flashlight or headlamp. RSVP soon to reserve your spot as this hike is limited to 25 people. There is no restroom on site and the trail is not ADA accessible. Children are welcome\, no pets\, please.
