SUMMARY:Bluegrass\, Hikes\, History\, and More at Borders Farm
DESCRIPTION:Location: Foster\nCome on down to Borders Farm for a day of history\, hikes\, bluegrass\, and a barn sale! Borders Farm was settled in the 1760’s and has been continuously farmed for 250 years. The farm\, which is on the National Historic Register\, encompasses over 200 acres on both sides of North Road. Today\, Borders Farm\, Inc. and Borders Farm Preservation\, Inc help to keep alive Charles and Margery Borders’ dream of keeping their property as a working farm\, museum and agricultural education center. \nVisitors are invited to learn about the historic farm throughout the day. Borders Farm’s knowledgeable docents will be available to guide the public through the history and collections of the 1840 Farm House and describe how the family lived. House tours at 10:00am\, 11:00am and 12:00noon. \nJoin guided walks of the Borders Farm property\, which includes two barns\, a 19th-century farmhouse\, several ponds and pastures\, old stone walls\, livestock\, and substantial wooded areas. \nLater in the afternoon\, Borders Farm will host a Bluegrass Concert with Saddle Up the Chicken. \nAt historic Borders Farm\, you’ll never know what you’ll find. Charles Borders was a known collector of antiquities\, artifacts\, curios\, curiosities\, and collectibles. They’ve cleaned out the attics and cellars of the farmhouse and barns and will be putting items out on the lawn for a giant yard sale. This is your opportunity to own a piece of history! \nSchedule of Events:\n9:00 am – 2:00 pm – Giant Barn Sale\n10:00 am\, 11:00 am and 12:00noon – House Tours\, 1840’s Phillips Farmhouse\n10:00 am\, 11:00 am and 12:00noon – Guided Hikes\, Borders Farm Hiking Trails\n10:00 am – 12:00Noon  – Bluegrass Concert with Saddle Up the Chicken \nThe public is welcome to bring a picnic\, blanket and/or lawn chairs and spread out under the shady trees. Suggested ages\, 5 and up\, unless in a backpack or carrier. Visitors should bring insect repellent and sun protection\, as you will be in a meadow and woodlands. Easy walks\, but varied terrain. Since there are farm animals\, dogs are not encouraged on the property; service dogs on leash are welcome. A clean\, permanent port-o-potty is on the premises of the main house. SUMMARY:Bush Hill History Walk
DESCRIPTION:Location: North Kingstown\nJoin the Land Conservancy of North Kingstown to walk back in time through historic Wickford Village. Town historian Tim Cranston will tell stories of the history of the area\, highlighting the Bush Hill Preserve and the ongoing project to restore a footbridge across Mill Cove that was used by farmers as early as the 1700s. All ages are welcome. The walk will be at a leisurely pace for a distance of about 1 mile. Please wear comfortable shoes. DESCRIPTION:Location: Bristol\nEagles\, Owls\, Hawks\, and Falcons\, formidable and magnificent predators of the sky\, are headed to Bristol\, Rhode Island. Razor-sharp talons\, extraordinary strength\, hooked beaks and highly developed eyesight and hearing make raptors the rulers of the avian world. \nThis September\, they will be descending on the Audubon Society of Rhode Island’s Nature Center and Aquarium in Bristol\, Rhode Island for Raptor Weekend 2018. Wildlife rehabilitators and experts from across the Northeast will bring a wide variety of these extraordinary birds to the largest raptor celebration in New England. Enjoy live flight demonstrations\, educational programs\, and activities for bird enthusiasts of all ages. \nAudubon presents a unique opportunity for visitors to get up-close with many species and learn about amazing birds of prey in this fun\, family-friendly weekend event. \nThe Environmental Education Center will be open\, as will the gift shop\, so restrooms are available.
